He came home so captivated with the place and the people we seriously considered moving there. But, smarter thoughts prevailed -- we were too close to earning Air Force retirements. It was not until 2009, to celebrate our 30th anniversary, that we traveled there together. The next year, on a return trip, we purchased a time share at the Hilton Coylumbridge. We have returned every year until 2020 when COVID stopped travel. We were able to return in fall of 2021 and have two trips set for 2022.
Mike and I are both retired US Air Force lieutenant colonels. He retired from active duty after 24 years of flying F-4s and F-15Es. Combining both active duty and reserve time, I retired from the public affairs career field with 33 years of service.
The majority of this site covers visiting the Highlands but I am adding sections for other areas of the country.

Our top two recommendations:
1) Take comfortable waterproof walking shoes
2) Join Historic Scotland Environment or Scottish Heritage USA (or both) to save money and make reservations to visit the most popular historic sites.
