Great thing about this organization -- when you join it, you can use your card to enter any of the National Trust for Scotland properties free. You also receive the US newsletter and the National Trust magazine from Scotland. Single membership is $40: Couple $65; Silver Couple (over 65) is $45. This is well worth it if you are going to visit two or three of their property.
Basically, the National Trust and Historic Scotland manage the vast majority of the historic sites, parks, buildings, etc. Once you have an idea of your itinerary and what you really want to see and then visit these sites to see if a membership will save you money. It usually does! Memberships also include free parking and discounts in the gift shops.

Members enjoy:
• free access to over 70 heritage attractions across Scotland
• free entry to over 400 daytime events a year
• a 20% discount in our shops and a 10% discount in our cafes
There are different categories of membership -- as an example, cost for a couple is 96 pounds. Again, it could be a great deal if your are visiting their sites. For example, admission for two to Edinburgh castle is 34 pounds and you get to go to the head of the line. Add another castle or site to it and you have paid for your membership.
Explore the estate and register for different activities - clay shooting, quad biking, horseback riding and more - on this site.
